<image:title>Blog - Where You Should Eat: Best Restaurant in Miami 2021 - Mandolin Aegean - Dish Of The Day: Octopus</image:title>
<image:caption>In reality there is not much more to this dish then exactly what you see; a PERFECTLY cooked piece of Octopus. Whether you eat this normally or not, I would highly recommend trying octopus from a great mediterranean restaurant. This is one of the main proteins in the diet in this part of the world, and the difference a skillful cook or chef makes on a dish like this is massive. Octopus can be chewy and flavorless quiet easily, but can also be finessed into one of the most creamy delicious bites from the sea you’ll ever have. One bite into this dish Gabi and I smiled at each other in recognition of how well done this was. For me the simplicity here is what makes it special, fresh olive oil, a squeeze of lemon, the highest quality octopus and masterful cookery; what it’s all about!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Where You Should Eat: 5 Best Pasta Places In LA, 2021 - M. Georgina ~ Chef Melissa Perello</image:title>
<image:caption>Semolina Mafaldine Pasta - $18 Gorgonzola dolce, pickled treviso, candied walnut So this one is not an Italian restaurant, really it falls in the seasonal California category that you see in many farm to table spots across the state. If you have not heard of Melissa Perello she is a big name in San Francisco and holds several Michelin stars. The vibe of her new restaurant in the Row DTLA feels and tastes expensive. The pastas here tend to be unique noodle shapes in comparison to what you see on the average Italian menu. She then pairs those unique noodles often times with lighter sauces, which is wonderfully welcomed into my pasta rotation. Be sure to splurge and get one of her gorgeous steaks or perfectly cooked duck! We splurged and got the Tomahawk - it was a banger.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Where You Should Eat: 5 Best Pasta Places In LA, 2021 - Rossoblu ~ Chef Steve Samson</image:title>
<image:caption>Tagliatelle al ragu Bolognese - $22 This industrial pasta haven on the edge of the Fashion District in downtown brings a combination of modern and rustic cooking, and is why I eat here. The staff and service are spot on, and the kitchen is sending out perfect plates all night; their outside space is definitely something to enjoy! I’ve been a handful of times, and appreciate that they do classics REALLY well. Great red sauce, great in house sausage driven pastas, decadent cream based pastas, etc…They take those familiar flavors and elevate them to incredible heights. Like any meal I have, I encourage you to share everything; a couple antipasti, a pasta or two, and a great piece of meat or fish.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Roasted Marrow Bone - $22 Spinach gnocchetti, crispy breadcrumbs, aged balsamic This is one of the absolute hardest reservations in LA to get, and it is worth every bit of difficulty to land one! The atmosphere is loud and bustling, the large warehouse maintains its rust and charm, while complimented by chic fixtures, a large open kitchen, timeless dishware, and smart industrial accents throughout. The food is every bit as sexy as the vibe and clientele. Everything here has an extra hit of luxury; bone marrow, truffles, imported Italian olive oils, specialty cheeses, dry aged Ribeye, whole Branzino and the list goes on. Arguable the best restaurant in LA and every bite you take here will likely confirm this notion!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Where You Should Eat: 5 Best Pasta Places In LA, 2021 - Scopa Italian Roots ~ Chef Antonia Lofaso</image:title>
<image:caption>Bucatini - $22 Baby zucchini, garlic, arugula, burrata, pesto, lemon This beautifully green dish combines a few of my favorite aspects of pasta; a noodle that is chewy but not dense, a healthy share of fresh cheese, and a blend of farm fresh herbs; this is about as ideal of a pasta dish as I can imagine. One of the bad wraps of pasta is that it can eat rather heavy, but this dish is able to finesse that delicate line and stay somewhat light, while still full of flavor and satisfaction. A good pesto can never be wrong! One of my favorite people to eat with is my mom, and having a mother that stays away from red sauce has lead me to appreciate the vast world of pasta outside the red sauce spaghetti of my youth.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Where You Should Eat: 5 Best Pasta Places In LA, 2021 - Osteria Mozza ~ Chef Nancy Silverton</image:title>
<image:caption>Orecchiette - $24 With a sausage and mushroom ragu This is a restaurant whose chef and legend precedes itself. There are few other places in LA that hold the mystique and the consistent quality like Osteria Mozza. The pasta, the mozzarella bar, the bread (oh the bread!), everything Nancy creates is the next best bite you’ve ever eaten. The one thought I constantly have while I am dining and while I am reminiscing on meals is that the sauces are second to none. Yes the fresh pastas themselves are worth dreaming about, but the sauces are deep and rich, herbaceous and fatty, light when desired or glutinous when needed. Not a single dish here has ever hit my table that didn’t hit the mark!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Where You Should Eat: Tacos in LA 2021 - Mariscos Jalisco</image:title>
<image:caption>Hands down the best taco in LA, and therefore one of the best tacos in the world. These things SLAP…on a level that is hard to explain. If you are in LA, this needs to be an absolute priority!! One of my top 3 food experiences in all of LA and I do not say this lightly, I would die for these tacos. So what is all the talk about? Well, my pictures do it no justice; it’s hard to capture such excellence, and something that is fried shut! BUT just know they only make one thing at this truck, because you do NOT need anything else. (I would suggest ordering at least 4 per person, and even then, it will never be enough.) Each taco has a home made perfectly crunchy fried tortilla, filled with shrimp, potato and herbs that join together to create a symphony of flavor and a creaminess that will blow you away. The beauty of these though is that the filling is put in the tortillas, then they are folded shut and fried to perfection creating a perfect little crust around the edge. I cannot stress enough how unique and satisfying these Tacos are! Then you add the house salsa filled with chunks of fresh veggies and seafood, an entire avocado, limes galore and you are set for the best meal out of a truck that money can buy. You cannot find a better bang for your buck in Los Angeles; these things are legendary!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Where You Should Eat: Tacos in LA 2021 - Teddys Red Tacos</image:title>
<image:caption>If you have never had Birria tacos I would suggest moving these to the top of the list, BUT please be smart about where you go as the popular style has opened the door for a lot of posers in the LA area. As in most cases, your first impression is very important, and Birria can be the greatest bite on earth, or a big flavorless let down. The guys at Teddys Red Tacos are some of the originals to blaze the trail of Birria in southern Cal and across the US, so you can bet your ass this Consume’, these Tortillas and that perfect Beef that’s been marinating for hours are going to explode through your taste buds! There are truly few things more delicious and so damn flavorful. Make sure you check out one of their trucks cruising around the greater LA area. *Disclaimer: all Birria is not created equal, please do your research if you aren’t going to a Teddys.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Where You Should Eat: Tacos in LA 2021 - Guerrilla Taco</image:title>
<image:caption>I talk about Guerilla frequently on this blog, and I have NO shame about that. This is one of the great Taco places, but also restaurants in Los Angeles. Creative, Innovative, consistent, and the flavors are hitting. Though ownership has switched over, the ladies in control now have held true to Chef Wes Avila'‘s original vision; fresh ingredients, masterful technique, and thoughtfully experimental ways to enjoy one of the true classics that is a taco. Be sure to get an assortment of different options (the menu is small), and a box or 2 of the Potato Taquitos. These simple little rolled tortillas provide equally opposing textures; softness from the potato filling and perfect crunch from the tortillas, which are married together by the most important ingredient, the Salsa Verde. A simple salsa that has stolen my heart a dozen times over, so much depth of flavor, smoky, spicy, herbaceous; you could drink this stuff and die happy!!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Where You Should Eat: Tacos in LA 2021 - Tacos Los Guichos</image:title>
<image:caption>From a convenience point of view, any of the amazing taco trucks up and down Slauson are terrible for parking, but may also hold the closest density of world class taco trucks and taquerias that exists anywhere. So, come prepared to drive a few laps while your friends procure the goodies, or be prepared to walk a few blocks once you finally do find somewhere to park. Tacos Los Guichos is known for having the best Carnitas in LA and you can rest assured they live up to that billing. Their quesadillas have also become something of legend in my circle, so make sure you grab one of these meat heavy ‘half moon’ delights!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Top 3 Restaurants you MUST eat at in Palm Springs - Tac/Quila</image:title>
<image:caption>Last but not least is another spot by Liz Ostoich. Her more casual but equal quality spot is always busy and is always good. One of the more inventive spots up and down the main strip here in Palm Springs, if you are a food person who wants an elevated experience at a normal price, this is your go too. Though there are a lot of restaurants in the area, Tac/Quila is always better than its counterparts. Grab some tacos, tempura avocado bites, ceviche, enchiladas and a Mezcal or Tequila cocktail, and you will find yourself in that wonderful mexican food happy place. Note: You can do a tasting of 5 of their margs which was definitely a fun added part to this great overall experience! Honorable mention: Chula Artisan Eatery in La Quinta (20 mins down Valley from Palm Springs). This little unassuming spot is cranking out consistently delicious south of the boarder/farm to table food, and they have a badass female chef/owner</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Top 3 Restaurants you MUST eat at in Palm Springs - FARM</image:title>
<image:caption>Like you are sitting on the back patio of your best friends villa in the south of France, or maybe tucked in the rolling hills of Napa Valley, no matter where this magical dining space transports you too, the experience is sure to be exquisite. Female owned and operated by one of the valleys legendary restaurateurs, Liz Ostoich. The short rib and baked brie are both a must, and are perfect accompaniment to the ambiance…cheese, wine, live acoustic music on the veranda with hanging vines that add that perfect touch of charm and whimsy. The gal singing the night we were there was really something, a sultry and smooth jazzy voice, we were in heaven listening! One of our favorite little random bits about this spot was that they use beautiful colored glassware that are all uniquely their own, no two alike; so every table looks similar but different. I am not sure if they are done by a local artisan but nonetheless this simple little idea again creates a wonderful feeling of whimsy! This spectacular setting, tucked away in a what feels like a secret garden really creates a special environment and is no doubt the perfect place for a great date night.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Top 3 Restaurants you MUST eat at in Palm Springs - Rooster and the Pig</image:title>
<image:caption>Top spot, numero uno, the grandame of them all. This little haunt in a strip mall setting is some of the best Vietnamese food you will find outside of Southeast Asia. A truly special gem out in the desert, but be prepared to wait, I promise it is worth it though! Pre-covid there was no way to make reservations or do takeout, instead you walked up and put your name on a list, and waited in the blistering 100+ degree weather in a battle of wills with the 30 other people submitting themselves to this torture. Alas, it is all worth it though. As soon as you finally get into that AC, order a cold beer and take your first spoonful of congee, at that point alone you have finally arrived in paradise. The bowls of rice congee from this kitchen are the type of comfort, soul warming food you dream about years down the line. I would drive from LA to Palm Springs for this soup alone. It is that serious. And the best part is…its Free? Yes, they serve it in traditional vietnamese bowls as a Welcome to anyone who sits down, but feel free to order more! Beyond the congee, everything is spectacular, order as much as you can possibly eat. The varieties of fresh spring rolls are all top notch, and all the rice and noodle dishes are flavor bombs that will leave you as satisfied as ever. If you have 1 meal in the desert, it needs to be here.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - All About The People: Nuraghe Sardo, Rome</image:title>
<image:caption>The magic of this experience was even though we didn’t speak the same language we fell in love with the people, we couldn’t read the menu and yet the best dishes hit the table, we hadn’t planned to be there, but we were dropped into this perfectly captivating evening. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, things unexpected can turn into the most magical and important memories. The most vivid thing I remember was eating a beautifully cooked whole white fish, laid on a bed of thinly sliced potatoes. Sardinians know their way around a fish, Ill just leave it at that. I remember Laura and dad taking a bite and grinning, I remember thinking ‘I am living the Italian dream’. You are supposed to have those influential “italian” moments when you’re here, and I thought this was the most special of those kinds of moments. A silly romanticized thought, but one that still brings me joy and will live with me forever.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - All About The People: Nuraghe Sardo, Rome</image:title>
<image:caption>Pictured: Dad and I in Rome at the Stadio Olimpico. I do not have many pictures of us but this is one of my all time favorites, AND it represents dads trip to visit me that holds 2 of my most precious food memories ~ Bucatini with Meat Sauce, and Narughe Sardo. Todays post speaks once again to my time spent in Rome, and more specifically to my father and the wonderful owners of Nuraghe Sardo, a Sardinian restaurant just north of the Vatican. As I wrote about my dad and our infamous bucatini with meat sauce in a previous post, this particular memory kept nagging at me. I always felt like Nuraghe Sardo should have been apart of that list.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The 5 BBQ Stops You Need to Make Across The U.S. in 2021 - Franklins BBQ - Austin, TX</image:title>
<image:caption>Eating at Franklins is a religious affair, something you dream about, because it just might be one of the best bites of food you will ever eat. There are meals out there that change it all, and then there are singular entities, a single bite that stand alone as a beacon of flavor blasted light. Yes, brisket from Franklins may be the best BBQ in America. Aaron Franklin and the hype are real at this Austin showstopper. Be prepared for a wait, but trust me it is always worth it!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The 5 BBQ Stops You Need to Make Across The U.S. in 2021 - The Rendezvous - Memphis, TN</image:title>
<image:caption>If you are a fan of dry rub Ribs, then Rendezvous is your spot! Aside from having the coolest cobble stoned back alley entrance, you then descend into the undergrounds of Memphis BBQ history, and feel like you’re stepping back in time! Let it be said, these are NOT slow smoked fall off the bone ribs slathered with a great homemade sauce (Ill let you know where you can find those). These ARE covered in the most delicious dry bbq rub I have ever tasted, then cooked over charcoal that gives a wonderful taste and tenderness. They are deeply savory with a luscious texture that equal parts tender and substantial. Definitely not what I expected or am used to, but I would drive hours to eat these again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Texas is the land of Brisket, I am a Brisket girl, and Austin cranks out some of the best Brisket in Texas. Facts. This joint is run by twin brothers, Mark and Michael, who are 4th generation pit masters, and now have 2 locations (Austin, Dallas). The method is the same though; Post Oak to ensure loww and sloww cooking. Just the way it should be! The intense flavor coming from these thick cut strips of meaty heaven is absolutely overwhelming, the first time you take a bite no other brisket will ever live up. The bark…oh the bark.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The 5 BBQ Stops You Need to Make Across The U.S. in 2021 - Central BBQ - Memphis, TN</image:title>
<image:caption>If you are one of those who is only looking for that true fall of the bone fatty porky ribby deliciousness, than Central is it! These guys have opened up a few locations around town, we went to the one closest to the Loraine Motel, where MLK was shot, and now the location of the Civil Rights Museum. We made a day of it all and had a really special time, I would highly recommend getting intouch with this important history and enjoying the fabulous food that embodies that history. The two items to order here are their pork ribs and the pulled pork sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious, and are better versions of these classics than you’ll find anywhere. Pro Tip: Head 1 block down to Makaedas Cookies for dessert. Unreal good butter cookies. (Female Minority owned!)</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - The 5 BBQ Stops You Need to Make Across The U.S. in 2021 - Q39 - Kansas City, Kansas</image:title>
<image:caption>Every other bbq place on this list lives up to the idea of a bbq shack, the old school pits, smoke billowing in the air, the old school charm, low and slow, simple and rustic. Q39 is NOT that. This is high end bbq, plated beautifully, sauced precisely and tastes like nothing you’ve eaten before. The hype is real at this one. If you are in Kansas City, make sure you stop by 1 of their 2 locations (Overland Park or W 39th). While KC is known for its award wining BBQ spots that have existed for generations, this new school spot is becoming a fast favorite among locals, and the darling of the critic world.
